Weather Wonders
Each year we take a field trip to investigate a field of study through hands-on discovery. This year, our theme revolves around the weather, meteorology, and climate change. Therefore, all grade levels will be involved in a unit of study called Weather Wonders. This unit ties in to our field trip to the Fernbank Science Museum as we take part in a Weather Wonders program.
Students will:
1. Discover the different layers of Earth's atmosphere.
2. Discover the water cycle and how clouds are formed.
3. Recognize different forms of precipitation and the effect of temperature on precipitation.
4. Learn what causes weather to change and understand the difference between weather and climate.
5. Discover the purpose of weather instruments, how they are used, and how to construct them
6. Explore large weather systems affected by unequal heating of land and water.
7. Explore the causes and effects of severe weather and know how to prepare for them.
8. Read weather forecasts and make forecast predictions based on weather maps.
9. Research climate change and propose solutions to help the environment.
